We made good progress and made first contact with them at the road bridge above Crofton. We parked at Crofton Crossing and waited for the boat to arrive. eventually we agreed that they would take the boat on to Bedwyn Station where there is better car access and also the usual facilities.
Meanwhile, after a cup of tea, we made a visit to the steam engines which were actually in operation today. There are two working engines, the older of which is said to be the earliest example of a working steam pumping engine in the world, still going strong!
Mid afternoon we all met at Bedwyn and Mike took three drivers back to Devizes to collect their cars, leaving our there as well. (Liz stayed to help Christine sort out the boat - the towpath at the moment is rather muddy, not just rain but also the passage of hundreds of kayaks and canoes in the weekend's Devizes to Westminster race. In Devizes we tried the marina for a replacement lock key but they currently not only do not sell diesel but also the chandlery is closed!
Back at the boat, we filled the water, emptied the elsans and were ready for the off. Andrew decided to stay as we went down a couple of locks and then stayed for a meal.
