Bascote

After two bright, sunny days, Mike was back on board after his trip back to Wadebridge - so the weather turned wet and miserable, just to make him feel familiar! The weather forecast promised better for the afternoon but, alas, it remained wet until we moored. Since the rain was very fine it made for rather difficult photography.

Hatton Bottom Lock
Cape of Good Hope
We set off to complete the remaining four locks of the Hatton Flight. After a short distance we also descended the two Cape Locks - with the Cape of Good Hope pub alongside. Just above the locks is a new block of apartments named after the one-time Chandley Wharf.

We were getting down on diesel so we called at Kate Boats but unfortunately they were out of fuel but we did manage to replace a gas bottle which ran out last night whilst Christine was cooking of dinner.

Just after Bridge 46 we stopped, as we have before, at the moorings for Tesco where we went shopping and stocked up for the next few days.

As we continued through Leamington Spa we spotted one colourful stretch of shrubbery.

Radford Semele Church
As we passed Radford Semele we could see that extensive works are underway at the church outside the village. On previous trips we have seen the tower shrouded in plastic.

Radford Bottom Lock
Just before the next locks we stopped for lunch - a very welcome helping of one of Christine's thick warming soup. At the locks, visibility was obscured by smoke from a site behind the trees, but we could not make out just what was causing it.

Lock 19
At the next lock a single handed boat had just started filling but when he saw us he emptied again so that we could work the locks ahead together. We stayed together until above Bascote locks.

Bascote Staircase
The last two locks today - Bascote - form a staircase but, after all those we passed through on the eastern side of the Leeds and Liverpool, were straightforward. At the next bridge we stopped at the water point before continuing a short distance for tonight's mooring.

10.0 miles - 16 locks.
